Safe water for teams going overseas or doing disaster relief – Light, inexpensive, high volume, no need for lots of additional filters.
Need a water filter setup with a large-volume gravity fed purification system to filter up to 170 gallons per day for your team or organization’s volunteers? How about a system you can leave behind to change the lives of hundreds of people – With an incredibly clean .02 Micron standard? For under $200? You can even use the included faucet adapter to drink straight from the tap during crises or in other emergencies when you know safe drinking water is compromised. This is a great choice for relief agencies or volunteer support groups traveling to areas where the water source is compromised or in question, and you need ultra-pure particle and bacteria filtration. (See the list of NGOs worldwide that are already using this technology.)
Chemicals and electricity are NOT required, and the filter lasts and lasts before needing to be replaced (1 million gallons!) This is also a great choice of an affordable system that can be left behind when your team leaves an area, village, or slum, since Amazon lists it for around $120.00. and even includes the drill bit you’ll need. (More after image.)
Instructions (including simplified pictographical ones that can be translated into other languages easily) can all be downloaded here: https://sawyer.com/technology/downloads/ The only item that doesn’t come in the kit is the bucket ( which are common worldwide and you wouldn’t want to pack anyway).
5.5 log for viruses = 99.9997% filtration rate
6 log for for protozoa like Giardia = 99.9999% filtration rate
7 log for bacteria like salmonella, cholera, E. coli = 99.99999%
It’s $142.95 for the more powerful viral PointZeroTWO™ Purifier, and $59.95 for the biological one.
These systems by Sawyer (see them all here) use technology from kidney dialysis machines. The PointOne Filter pores are so small (0.1 micron absolute) that no bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E.Coli, Cholera and Typhoid can get through. At 7 log (99.99999%) the filter attains the highest level of filtration available today. Simply put, it is impossible for bacteria to pass through the 0.1 micron filter. If the water being filtered is very muddy, you’ll need to backwash the filter more often – But this is not hard at all. (Sawyer recommends backwashing every 1000 gallons if fairly clear; if turbid every 10 gallons.)
