Furano is one of the cities on the island of Hokkaido, popular because of its super spacious lavender fields. The lavender flower fields are the main attraction in the town of Furano. However, if the lavender season (in summer) has passed, Furano has many other fields of flowers that bloom in spring and autumn. You can take the lavender bus to explore the lavender fields or take the Furano-Biei Norokko Train which will take you past a variety of fields with beautiful views.
• Rishiri Island and Rebun Island
These two small islands are located side by side by the northern side of Hokkaido. These places have a national park called Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park. Although relatively small, the islands are popular hiking spots because of their beautiful hiking trails and views over the waterfront. Rishiri Island not only has hiking trails, but also has some onsen (hot spring baths) which are quite interesting to visit. Rebun island is known for its rich flora.
• Daisetsuzan National Park
Daisetsuzan is the largest national park in Hokkaido. The park is very popular with lovers of outdoor activities. For those of you who like hiking or climbing in the mountains, then you’ll love this place because it is still very natural.
